This parcel of Durif has been chosen from selected vineyards overlooking Griffith in the Riverina, New South Wales, where it thrives in the warm, rich soils. One of the last parcels to be harvested, the rich ripe fruit concentrates the varietal flavours of violets and blackberries and enhances aromas of anise and cinnamon.

Dan Trauki on the 2019 Metal Label Durif: #DURIF Inky deep purple colour, big bouquet of blackberries & blueberries with lovely coffee aromas and just s hint of chocolate. Gorgeous, BIG palate of rich dark berries, cinnamon and a smidge of liquorice  MASSES OF FLAVOUR

"Durif is a big, burley frame but with a soft smile when coerced. From Berton Vineyards Riverina site, this is all black fruit and dark chocolate. A smidge of rum'n'raisin but that cheeky smaile comes from soft purple flowers and pot purri like scents. A savoury drive bustles along, highlighted by licorice, biltong and brown spices. Long and mouthfilling, those delicate spices tick away with ease. Big, sapping tannins draw all moisture from the mouth. If you like 'em big, you will love the value this represents." 90/100, Q wine, August 2020

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Intense aromas of violets, blackberry and subtle chocolate herald this mouth staining Durif’s inky dark fruit characters of blackberry, anise and smoky liquorice that fill the concentrated palate. The french oak and dense tannins add complexity and depth that persists to long flavoursome finish.
"This is a nifty little wine bargain. A hearty red for $10-12" Windsor Dobbin This is all about the fruit! It’s an infant wine, big and inky, and the winemaker has made little attempt to tame the rambunctious fruit with maturation to create a more vinous wine, but if you enjoy bold young fruity reds, this is for you. The colour is dense and dark, the aroma loaded with blackberry jam and smoke notes, while the flavour is fruity, sweet, unctuous and almost syrupy. It’s a simple ball of ripe fruit, but offers a lot of it for a very small outlay. Drink now to 10 years. Huon Hooke, Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine - Recommended wine
