High Eden straddles the ridge that overlooks the Barossa. A region of rugged beauty characterised by lean podsolic soils that offer lots of ancient white quartz rock but little else. This is home to our heroic Chardonnay vines that always produce small crops of intensely flavoured fruit.
Light gold in colour with aromas of passionfruit, orange blossom and creamy vanilla oak. The palate is complex with rich flavours of honey and passionfruit over herbaceous string beans and is perfectly balanced by vanillin oak. The finish is long and persistent with zesty mineral notes.
VINTAGE 2005
VARIETY Chardonnay 100%
REGION High Eden
WINEMAKER James Ceccato
VINTAGE Vintage 2005 was early, warm and quick and produced good yields of fantastic quality. Above average rains led to a spring that brought a serene green beauty. Early November saw some frosts but good flowering weather followed. Summer was wet and wild with thunderstorms that helped maintain good subsoil moisture. The dry weather continued right through the unusually warm autumn. The quality of the 2005 vintage is sure to be ranked as one of the best on record, alongside the 2002 vintage.
